It’s Poetry Friday and today I’m sharing a couple of the cheritas I’ve been writing during April. Last week I was taking care of my grandkids, but I did manage to write each evening before the exhaustion of the day took over.
The first one is in celebration of Earth Day using the word “ebb.”
Giving Thanks
Wonder wanders at the edge of the sea.
Ebb and flow,
to and fro.
Tide holds treasures buried deep.
Thank you, Earth.
Thank you, Sea.

Last month I attended the Philadelphia Flower Show. One of the displays depicted a whimsical Alice-in-Wonderland-type dinner or tea party. I snapped a picture but didn’t write anything to go with it until “magical” came up as my word prompt.
Magical
The invitation read “Tea at Two.”
I followed the map into the deep woods
where fairies dwell with turtles and squirrels.
Guests gathered around a table
set with lavender and sunflowers
ready for a magical afternoon.

Heidi has the round up today at my juicy little universe where she shares news about recent adventures and the next line for the kidlit progressive poem. Be sure to stop by for lots of poetry goodness.
“Magical” is such a wonderful prompt! Love the Alice in Wonderland display. 🙂 Thanks for sharing these!

My grandchildren would have loved that flower show. Lavender and sunflowers, amazing (and magical.)

You are really working the cheritas, Rose! By the time I’d read them both I’d forgotten they WERE cheritas–which I always think is the mark of a well-addressed form. I especially like “Thank you, Earth. Thank you, Sea.”

I love bouquets of sunflowers with sprigs of lavender tucked in. What a great place to find and use ‘magical.’ Your first cherita is darling with that personification of Wonder and thanks to earth and sea. I love that.

Rose, thank you for sharing your sweet cheritas. I can appreciate the exhaustion in the evenings after caring for young children. So glad you could take some time and keep up the writing. I love the thank you cherita to Earth and Sea. I like how you use a word prompt for each cherita. I may do something similar in May. In the past couple years, I’ve done my own poetry month in May. (In April, I write with Ethical ELA.)

Ugh… so many familiar prompts here, Rose! Magical, ebb, wander…I love what you did with them. You are becoming an expert at the Cheritas poem form. I really enjoyed writing to the prompts this month. Did you? I felt it made me more productive!

I did enjoy the prompts! I felt like it gave me a starting point. I also enjoyed writing the cheritas, although sometimes I don’t think I quite nailed the story format.

Rose, your gratitude for a beautiful spring tea party is seen in your cherita. The photo is lovely so thank you for leading us to a magical scenario.

I love these cheritas, Rose. They’re both a bit surreal or ethereal. The first feels like a prayer and the second like magic. So lovely and calming, which I can use right now!
