This morning…
The fountains beckon us…listen, come closer, wonder. We make our way around the pond finding new delights, letting new thoughts in.
This morning I was on dog walking duty alone since Allan left to play golf. We’ve walked Cyrus together many times in the past few days, but because of my knee surgery I haven’t taken on that duty much at home in recent months. This morning I realized how much I miss our alone time on the trail.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy walking with Allan, but there is something special about getting lost in my own thoughts when Cyrus and I walk alone. Ideas pop into my head, I notice more, appreciate more. It’s a special time to wander and ponder.
The trail beckons us…listen, wonder, notice. Can’t wait to experience this joy again!
I walked alone this morning with the sun bright and the air cold! I too became lost in my thoughts and memories. When I finished, I remembered why spring walks are so special!

I totally agree – I love running with my friends, but I do sneak a couple of solo runs in a week. I need that quiet time to process and think. This line: Ideas pop into my head, I notice more, appreciate more. It’s a special time to wander and ponder. –is perfect!!
Enjoy

Your post sounds lifted right out of Ralph Fletcher’s Writer’s Notebook book.

I also love a daily walk alone. You are right: we notice more, reflect more, create more when we are alone.

I think we all need some alone time during the day just to gather our thoughts or just to be.

I hope you are on the mend, Rose. Ahh, to have time to wonder and wonder is a delight!

Oh, yes…those alone walks with my dog Cayo are special. I often find myself sneaking out without Todd, and going the long way, especially on beautiful mornings. This is one of my favorite things about summer. Enjoy!

There is definitely something special about being alone with your dog on a walk. The experience shifts when someone else is along. I love how you end your slice with “The trail beckons us…listen, wonder, notice.” It’s as if you are staking a claim on your walks and validating their beauty for both owner and furry friend.

One of the best things to do, especially as the weather starts to warm up. Enjoy those moments of peace!

When I walk alone, I notice more and think more deeply than when I walk with my husband. He notices cars, I notice nature. I prefer my noticings. 🙂

Rose, I love this piece. I especially love this line: “The trail beckons us…listen, wonder, notice. Can’t wait to experience this joy again!” There’s nothing as wonderful, spiritual, and life-affirming than a simple walk in the woods.

Rose,
Such a simple thing to walk with your dog and yet, “The trail beckons us . . .”
So much power in paying attention to your surroundings. Noticing and naming is important!
